Psalm 98
Today's scripture is Psalm 98. Go here to read it in your preferred version.
O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
Verse 1 - We should sing a new song to God, and actually we should be a new song. When we get saved we should be singing a new song in our hearts. The reason behind that new song is that God has done marvelous things! He has won the victory and included us in the winners circle!
Verse 2 - If only we would pay attention. Open our eyes. Stop looking inward and to the world for answers. We would see that God has made himself plain. Easily seen. He's not hiding anything, choosing only to accept a few good people to heaven. He's openly revealing Himself and the way to salvation to everyone. Not just Jews.
Verse 3 - Yes, God remembers His covenant with Israel. They are His chosen people. And He's made promises of mercy and truth to them that will never be forgotten. But God wants nothing more than all the ends of the earth to come to salvation!
Luke 3:6 - "And all flesh shall see the salvation of God."
Verse 4 - Very simply - salvation is ours for the taking. That should cause us to break out in song! To shout joyfully! To sing praise to God!
Verses 5-6 - We should be singing unto God. Let's use our talents with harps, trumpets, voices - any other instrument - and make a joyful noise to God, OUR KING, for what He's done for us!
Verses 7-8 - We know that if we don't cry out to God in worship, the earth will acknowledge Him. The sea will roar. The floods and rivers will clap. The hills will be joyful.
Verse 9 - The earth He created will be joyful before Him because He is coming in order to judge the whole earth... with righteousness and equity.
