Hunter has impetigo. I was going to link to the Wikipedia article about it but it has such awful, graphic pictures on there that I'm not going to do that to you.
Wednesday night he slept about 4 hours between the hours of 11pm and 6am. He made that experience even more pleasurable by screaming so loudly he woke up Brianna. We spent all night basically just sitting on the couch watching American Idol episodes I taped back in April thinking I would actually have time to sit down and watch them. Oh well, I'm starting to find out who has been eliminated so far... (for those of you who don't know, the American Idol winner was actually announced a couple of weeks ago.) I enjoy the show somewhat but it's just not a priority at all around here. But I digress.
Yesterday he had no problems. But after bath time as I lotioned his legs, I noticed a rash that was covering an alarming part of his legs. It wasn't like diaper rash, so I smeared Benadryl on it and hoped for the best.
He slept from 8:20pm to 7:45am.
Today after arguing with myself I decided to take him to the evening clinic at the doctor's office. The doctor took one look at him and knew it was impetigo, although she did do a strep culture as well (negative). She made it sound like it's very common, especially in the summer and particularly among those who suck their thumbs. It's basically just a skin infection that is treated with an antibiotic. It hasn't bothered him anymore and she says we caught it very early, so I'm glad I decided to take him on in.
Although I would have preferred to not spend two hours in a tiny consultation room with an overactive 3-year old and 18-month old! We sang about 500 songs and I had to dance to every single one. We played the loudest games possible. We laughed so loud I'm pretty sure they could hear us in the waiting room. One thing about my kids is they will roll with the punches.

Hunter is Six Months!?!?
Oh my word, time is flying! Today was Hunter's six-month doctor's appointment. I have just been shaking my head all day. It seems like he's been a part of our family for forever, but he's my little baby! And all of a sudden he's getting so big!!
At Brianna's six-month appointment she was 13 lbs, 8 oz and 24 1/2 inches. Hunter is 15 lbs 13 oz and 25 1/2" long. He got seven vaccines, including the flu shot, bless his heart! Needless to say he's been napping pretty well since our appointment.
At every "milestone" appointment you get a sheet that says, "Your baby can..." and then lists all these things that supposedly your baby can do at this age. One thing is sit up alone. I told Dr. S. that Hunter is nowhere near sitting up by himself. Whenever I try to sit him up alone he just rolls over and starts crawling away. He said, "He's crawling??" I explained he is scooting (very intently) although yesterday and today has started putting his knees up like he's about to crawl. Dr. S said that he is way ahead of the curve for that which is pretty cool. Hunter is pretty obsessed with Brianna and she is pretty obsessed with entertaining him, so it really works out nicely! I think that's why he is so happy being on the floor and crawling around. If he starts to fuss, Bri just brings him a new toy and he's happy all over again. I mean, what service!
He crawls to books and starts to chew on them. Brianna rushes over, saying, "Nononono Hunter! Nononono!" She is loving being in charge of him.
I feel like there's more I should write but it's bedtime.

Six months - say what!?!?
I can't believe it, but today was Brianna's six-month appointment at the doctor. Technically she is four days shy of being six months, so she couldn't receive her flu shot and Hep B shot like she was supposed to. That means in two weeks we have to go back to the doctor for those shots. Yay. Everything else is great though. She is a whopping 13 lbs, 8 oz and 24 1/2 inches. She is still in the 5-10 percentile on a baby growth chart! What a wittle baby! Not too surprising if you look at her parents!
Dr. Sherrington diagnosed her with "lap colic". She screamed at him when he started poking around her ears, but as soon as I picked her up it was like someone hit the mute button. I told him she screams with practically anyone but me. He said it's likely because I'm staying at home with her, but it's the type of bond that he likes to see mothers and children have. He said for me not to change a thing. I don't plan on it! I know that she plays on her own enough throughout the day. Next week we will start solids! I will probably do it once or twice a day along with a round of nursing. How exciting!

In just a couple of days we are leaving for our first trip to Georgia with Brianna! We are very excited to make this journey with her, although getting ready is a struggle. Packing for yourself is very easy, but for a baby - not as easy. For example, I know how many clothes to pack for myself because I'm at the stage in life where I rarely poop or spit up on myself. But with Brianna, every day holds new possibilities! Obviously Leila will allow us to do laundry - even our cloth diapers!!! - but I still would like to make sure we can make this trip as easy as possible for them, so they won't refuse to host us again come Christmas. I am just one of those people that always forgets something and I'd rather forget something of mine than hers. Then I think - well, what does she really need? Food - I've got that part covered. Diapers - can be bought. Clothes - can be bought. Uhhh... that's it! Oh yeah, and TOYS! But I'm sure there are plenty of things and people to play with in Georgia.
Hopefully our trip will be FUN and maybe everyone will get lots of sleep! They are very brave to let us stay there!

Got this free in the mail today. You should still be able to get one if anyone wants one at the Juicy Juice website.

Shots
Brianna got her 4-month shots today. So far, she's the picture of perfection.

Of course, it's only been like an hour. She did really well after her first set - no fever or anything - so I'm hoping that will be true this time as well. She weighs 12 lbs, 4 oz and is 23 1/2 inches long, which means she actually is a little bit longer than Claire! Although, Claire's next doctor's appointment isn't for a few more weeks, so I'll probably find out then that Claire has surpassed her! So funny! Anyway, the doc says she doing great. She was smiling at him until he started poking around in her ears, and then she really showed her true colors.
Wish us luck for tonight!

Diagnosis X
I had to take Brianna to the doctor today for her first official appointment that wasn't a "well appointment" (i.e. scheduled visits). For the past few days we had noticed that her skin had taken on a bit of a scaly texture. We were sure it was from rubbing her elbows on the car seat and swing (the two things she is in most of the time) and since the scales seemed to be agitated particularly after car rides and hours in the swing, we seemed to be pretty good diagnosticians. But last night, after her bath, we noticed more patches - on her back, stomach, and legs. I lotioned her up, slathering it on, but Stephen firmly told me that if it hadn't cleared up by this morning, I should take her to the doctor, because no it definitely wasn't ringworm or excema, but it was something, and better safe than sorry. Of course I agreed, because who wants to be the mom that wrote off a skin disease as dry skin?
So, I hauled Brianna off to the doctor today (weighing in at a whopping 12 lbs, 2 oz for all of you who are interested) and she was her usual chipper self, making me feel even more like I should not be there.
Diagnosis: Dry skin.
I walked out of there with about 10 samples of body wash and lotion for people with sensitive skin. That's the good news, because I LOVE free samples! It did make me glad that I've been washing all of her clothes separately in the "free 'n' clear" detergent, because at least that was ruled out. That was one of the first questions the doctor asked me, and she thinks Bri just has particularly sensitive skin right now and that we may be using a lotion with too much perfume or a body wash with too much cleansing agent in it and not enough conditioning. Works for me! Easy fix + happy baby - dry skin = pleased parents.
Segue.
Last night was Brianna's first night in the crib. Now before you start with the wide-eyed, gaping mouth reaction of, "Isn't that baby three months old? And you're JUST NOW putting her in her crib?" ... picture it, people. Imagine that you are breastfeeding. Not supplementing at all, which means when that baby wakes up in the middle of the night, the daddy has no reason to wake up. But you, the mother, are up. Maybe just once a night, but still. It's enough for me to have to wake up, fumble around in the dark to get Bri out of the bassinet, stumble into the living room and turn on some lights. Now imagine me doing that, but having to go upstairs to get her out of the crib first. I am NOT a happy camper when I'm woken up, and going upstairs just seemed like it would add so much hassle. Mind you, I have also been begging Stephen for about a month to move her up there, because she would wake me up talking in her sleep or kicking the sides of the bassinet during a vigorous dream. So I wanted her moved upstairs, but I didn't. You know.
Since she's been sleeping through the night for a solid month (minus three days), we decided to finally take the plunge. Surely this sleeping through the night is not a fluke as we had suspected! So after her bath and last feeding, we took her upstairs and said adios! She looked so little in that big crib! It was so cute. No, I did not EVEN risk waking her up by taking a picture. The monitors were giving out nothing by static, which didn't bother Stephen but it made it kind of hard for me to sleep. They kept making popping sounds and stuff. I only went and checked on her once, thankyouverymuch, and it was because I heard something on the monitor. Turns out she was just talking in her sleep as usual, but she had already moved about 45 degrees and it had only been about 30 minutes! I left her, because I ain't wakin up that baby for nothin! Unfortunately, this morning I didn't hear her at all! Stephen woke me up to tell me that she was crying. Oops. I told you, I like my sleep! I'm just glad he went to work late and heard her! Haha! When I walked up to get her, she was 180 degrees from the way I had laid her down last night. That is an active little girl!
Okay, so I never thought I was going to be this sappy, mushy mom. And I consider myself to be pretty laid-back when it comes to Bri. But I have to be totally honest and tell you... I actually got teary-eyed when I laid her down in that crib. I knew she was going to be fine, but I guess I had kind of gotten used to just getting up and watching her kick around in her sleep, or suck on her tongue, or just watching her when she was sleeping. I think I will miss that, but I kind of doubt I'll go all the way upstairs just to do that. So. I didn't cry, but it was a close one. She just seemed so old all of a sudden!
She got hit on by a 4-month old today at the doctor's office. He probably weighed about 20 pounds - no lie - and was REALLY cute!! His dad moved his car seat to face Brianna's car seat. She just kind of stared at him wide-eyed while he jabbered on and on. He was such a cutie! But Stephen and the boys in our youth group at church have already ordered Brianna - No Dating Until You Are Married. Funny boys.
By the way, Brianna did sleep through the night still in her crib. 8 solid hours which is pretty much the norm for her. She's a big girl.

Busy Days
It seems like yesterday and today have just been full of things to do! Yesterday morning Brianna had her two-month shots at the pediatrician's office. Two months? Whaaaa? Sure, it seems like this chunky cutie-pie has been around forever, but when you say it like that it sounds so old!
She did SO good. She now weighs 10 pounds, 10 ounces and is 21 1/2 inches long. What's funny is mom found my two-month checkup sheet just today. I was 11 pounds, 14 ounces and was 23 (or 23 1/2, now I can't remember) inches long. Yowza! Of course, I was also three weeks overdue (sorry mom) and so I was a bit ahead of Brianna in the first place. The doctor raved about Brianna (well, duh.) During her shots, she cried very loudly, but as soon as they were over and I picked her up she quieted right down. Then we came home and she slept for a couple of hours. I had to go out in the afternoon because I had a dermatologist appointment, but after I got home we gave her some Tylenol just to head off any pending fever or pain she might have. We gave her one more dose about 5 hours later right before bedtime, hoping she'd sleep well. And she slept as well as any other night! I never gave her any more doses because she didn't seem to be in any pain, fussy, or have a fever. She had seemed a bit fussy before that first dose of Tylenol when we moved her, so she was probably sore. Today she has been great though.
Luckily she was great, because mom kept her this morning while I went to yet another doctor's appointment. So in the past two days, Bri has gotten shots, I've had a mole removed, and found out my mastitis has cleared up. Lots of doctor's visits.
Tonight we are having Little Caesar's with Matt and Jenn! It has just opened, much to the delight of Stephen. So I'm very excited about that!!
