Get Your Joy Back (Review)

This review is for the book "Get Your Joy Back" by Laurie Wallin. This book is about "banishing resentment and reclaiming confidence in your special needs family." Now, I have certainly been blessed because neither of my children are special needs children. I do have friends who have special needs children and I feel like this book made me understand their situation so much better. I know I will never be able to truly understand what those families are going through but now I can have a little more empathy.

In this book, Wallin talks about forgiveness - forgiving yourself, forgiving your child, forgiving your spouse, forgiving extended family, forgiving the professionals, forgiving your church and community and forgiving God. She also discussed finding joy with each of these groups again as well.

The thing that struck me most about this book was Wallin's honesty. The struggles that are shared in this book by her and other parents struck me to the core. I cannot imagine what they deal with on a daily basis, but Wallin proves that you can still choose to lean on God throughout the times of conflict, confusion, and fear.

I highly recommend this book even if you don't fit into the category of a special needs family, because I think we all need to realize what these families go through in order to be of service to them.

Thank you to Litfuse Publicity for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
