Touched by Heaven (Review)

This review is for the book "Touched by Heaven" by Nancy Ravenhill. This book is labeled as being full of inspiring true stories of one woman's life-long encounters with Jesus.

Nancy's childhood was not exactly ideal. In fact, the first time she says she saw Jesus was after her father had just finished beating her. That was the just the first of many times Nancy said she saw Jesus, or an angel. There were times in Nancy's life when she just did not know what decision to make, and after lots of prayer she would see people in the physical who helped her make her decision and then simply were never heard from again. Or when she was in physical trouble, there were people who again would appear in order to help her and then disappear after she was out of danger. She also spoke of the time that she went to heaven after dying in the hospital.

I will say that I have a bit of skepticism when I read books like this, but I enjoyed the stories of Nancy's life and I do not feel that she speaks of anything against scripture, except that she does claim to have seen the face of Jesus at one point. I think she is right that we should strive to be close enough to God that we are more open to spiritual happenings in our life.

Ulrich Zwingli (Review)

This review is for the book "Ulrich Zwingli" by William Boekestein, part of the Bitesize Biographies series. This is the second book I have read in the Bitesize Biographies series. I really enjoyed the other one I read (John Newton) and I enjoyed this one as well. I had never heard of Ulrich Zwingli before reading this book.

I feel that Boekestein did an incredible job outlining Zwingli's life. Zwingli was a Reformationist in Switzerland in the early 1500's. Boekestein begins the book with Zwingli's birth and introducing his family background and lifestyle growing up. The rest of the book follows his journey as a Reformer.

I enjoyed reading this book even though I knew nothing of Ulrich Zwingli. It was very interesting to learn more about him. This would be a really helpful book for writing a report or learning more about famous spiritual leaders.

Thank you to Cross Focused Reviews for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
