The Promise (Review)

This review is for the book "The Promise" by Beth Wiseman. I will be honest. After reading the back cover of this book, I couldn't wait to dig into this book. It sounds too unbelievable, and yet it is based on actual events that transpired.

This is about a woman named Mallory. Through some crazy schemes of her boss and his relatives, she ends up making a decision to fly to Pakistan, marry a man she doesn't know, and bring him and his family back to the United States for medical care for his daughter. What Mallory doesn't know is the extent of deception involved in the plan. She doesn't listen to anyone when deciding to go to Pakistan, and by the time she gets there, it is too late to just leave whenever she wants.

This book was so eye-opening to me. I cannot believe this kind of thing happens in real life. It made my heart ache for her, as well as those in the cities discussed in the book, if this is true to life at all.

I highly recommend this book. You won't want to stop reading it, to find out the end of Mallory's story.

Thank  you to Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Expectant Parents (Review)

This review is for the book "Expectant Parents" by Suzanne Hadley Gosselin. No, I am not an expectant parent, but I have been one of those twice in my life. I tried reading "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and every other parenting book that was popular, but the information was overwhelming, and then when the baby was actually here my brain was complete mush.

This book is different in some ways. Yes, there is practical advice in here - making sure you take a babymoon, how to pack for the hospital, different birthing plans and choosing a pediatrician. Then there is spiritual advice, which is missing from a lot of books. This includes pregnancy fears, how your husband can step up after birth, postpartum depression, how your inner circle changes, and just surviving those first few weeks. Each chapter has questions you can answer and think about. There are also sections called "View from the Nursery" by real parents and how their expectations changed.

The end of the book also speaks on miscarriage, adoption, multiples, and blended families. I think this book gives great advice and covers a lot of areas that are missing in other pregnancy books. I highly recommend it for those who are expecting.

Thank you to Litfuse Publicity and Focus on the Family for providing a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Kindergarten - Day 51 and Day 52

Day 51 - Wednesday

Started off our morning at work! One of Bri's favorite things is reading to the younger children. Whenever she reads a new book I try to snap a picture to remind myself to add it to her online bookshelf. If we own the book, it gets moved to her real bookshelf in her room, too, so every book in her room is a book she can read by herself!

You can check out her online bookshelf here (I think this will work).

We found a spider so of course we had to capture it! I think it's a wolf spider?

Back at home - school time!

Bible time - talking about Joshua and Gideon

Living Long Ago - Looking at food in Europe 200-300 years ago:

Poetry: "Hush, Little Baby", "Bedtime", "A Prayer", "The Importance of Windows"

I Heard Good News Today (missionary story) - "A Good Samaritan"

Math:

Language Arts: She had to put a box around the vowels, circle the word that rhymes with "fib" and underline the word that is a name.

Vocabulary: She had to think of words that have to do with cooking. She came up with: spoon, bowl, soup, pickles, plates, fork, stir, pour, slide things, knife, chop, mixer, aluminum foil, apples, and corn.
