Psalm 111

Today's reading is Psalm 111. Go here to read it in your preferred version.

Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.
The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.
He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.
The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.
They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Verse 1 - I am supposed to praise God with my whole heart. This verse tells us to praise Him in the assembly of the upright. If I can't praise Him at church, I probably won't praise Him to those in the world. I also believe this verse tells us we need to be in church as Christians. I don't mean that you have to go to church for hours a day every day (although that would probably be very helpful to me!) but Hebrews 10:25 also tells us not to forsake the exercise of assembling together - even more so as we see the day of Christ's return approaching.

Verse 2 - God's words are great and His ways are perfect. We may not feel like this at certain times in our lives, but when we look back and study our past... we see it's true.

Verse 3 - He is honorable. He is glorious. He is righteous. And He is all these things forever. Thank God, He is never-changing!

Malachi 3:6 - "For I am the Lord, I change not."

Hebrews 13:8 - "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."

Verse 4 - He is so gracious and full of compassion to us. Even though we don't deserve it. Thank you, God, for your amazing works and how compassionate you are to us!

Verse 5 - God has promised that He will take care of our needs. He will never forget a promise He has made us and He will never go back on His word.

Hebrews 6:18 - "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:"

James 1:17 - "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

Verse 6 - He continually shows us the power He has. He wants us to have faith in Him. He wants us to inherit all the nations.

Verse 7 - He is truthful and the most honest judge. His commandments never change and they stand strong forever. He never wavers on what is right or wrong.

Verse 8 - Our world is changing so much. People are making more gray areas than ever. People are becoming more self-serving. But God's commandments ARE THE SAME. You can't waffle on them, you can't try to tweak them so they fit your life. They are truth and they are just.

Verse 9 - Thank God He sent a way of redemption for us! His promises to us are forever! Holy, holy, holy is the Lord!

Verse 10 - If we fear God we will look to Him for answers. For guidance. And so from that we will gain wisdom. God's praise is going to go on forever and ever... I can't wait to be a part of that in heaven but I need to act on it down here too.
