Scraps of Evidence Review

"Scraps of Evidence" by Barbara Cameron is a new novel in the Quilts of Love series. I like inspirational suspense novels and this one did not disappoint. Although I had not read any other books in the series, that did not make a difference. I do not know how closely related the books in this series are because they are all written by different authors.

In this book, Tess is a police officer who is trying to find a footing in the field due to the fact that she lives in a small town and is female. Her new partner, Logan, comes in and basically immediately falls in love with her, and vice versa. Just as soon as he comes into town, a mystery emerges and they are tracking a serial killer.

You figure out pretty quickly who the killer is, and then the rest of the story is really just waiting to see how long it will take for the characters to put the pieces together. I felt like this story was really predictable, but in the end I actually really enjoyed it. I liked the characters and I liked their story together, even though I knew exactly how it was going to end.

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies Review

I recently finished a true story by Brenda Spahn called "Miss Brenda and the Loveladies". I love to read stories that are non-fiction, and this one seemed right up my alley.

Brenda's story begins at a point in her life where she was changed. Brenda was determined to be rich and successful, but a situation that almost got her thrown into prison changed all that. She began ministering to ladies at a local women's prison - one of the worst prisons around, known for it's internal abuse and filth. She felt led to start her own halfway house for some of the released prisoners, only she was determined it would be a "whole-way house". She took the ladies who were deemed to be unable to be rehabilitated.

The book goes through her story, talking about things not only in Brenda's past but in the past of several of her ladies, now called Loveladies. Several of the ladies even put down their thoughts and experiences on paper for this book. I really enjoyed reading this book. The trials that Brenda has gone through to get to the point she is at now was a really amazing story. I would definitely support this ministry and I can't wait to go to her website to find out more about it. I highly recommend this book!

Wildwood Creek Review

I just finished reading Wildwood Creek by Lisa Wingate and I really enjoyed this book. Apparently this is part of one of her book series, all dealing with Moses Lake. This story stands alone and does not have anything to do with the other novels in the Moses Lake series.

In this story, two tales are intertwined throughout Allie is a young lady who really is attempting to be a production assistant on a very secretive show, but after a surprise encounter with the director, she is offered a major role. The show is depicting life in the 1800's in a town called Wildwood, which has nothing but mystery surrounding it in it's history. Allie finds that being on set is a little nerve-wracking, because it actually does take place in the abandoned town of Wildwood.

The story goes back and forth between what really happened in the 1800's, and what is happening in present-day. It is easy to follow and the story itself is intriguing. This is a Christian fiction but the faith of the characters is very subtle, which I liked.

I would recommend this book if you like historical romance novels.

Normal Conversation

The kind of conversations me and Brianna have... when she has completed her hour of quiet time and I was just about to hop into bed and take a nap...

Brianna: Come on, Mom, let's play Uno!

Me: Don't you think I should take a nap?

Brianna: (thinks) Tell you what. I'll go mix up the cards and get them ready. You come into the living room and lay down on the couch with a pillow and blanket. I'll wake you up when it's time to play.

It was a nice gesture on her part anyway. Love that little girl!

Prophet on the Run Review

I am one of those people who really enjoy devotionals on specific books of the Bible. So I was really looking forward to reading "Prophet on the Run" by Baruch Maoz. This is a devotional commentary on the book of Jonah. I think the book of Jonah is a great story, but I do feel like it is one of those stories that is easy to feel like you know everything about it because you have heard it so many times.

Maoz goes through each section of the book of Jonah, from his escape to his taking responsibility for his actions to his repentance and obedience. There is so much to learn from this story of Jonah. Maoz brought up so many good points throughout this book that will really help open your eyes to the beauty of this well-known story. Each chapter also has questions for discussion so it would be easy to use this in a small group study or if you want to journal on your own.

Overall, a great read. Very easy to comprehend and interesting. I would like to read more by this author in the future.
